We finally have confirmation that when a studio sees slightly lower than normal sales of their films, they think it is because the public is using services like Netflix and RedBox. At least, that is what Bob Iger is claiming in the most recent earnings call.
DVD sales took a 16% dip in their first fiscal quarter, so this is why Disney is now discussing going to the 28-day window like other studios are using. He refused to address Netflix by name, but he did say, “Redbox and a lot of these services, we are in discussions to go to the 28-day window — to not sell directly our physical goods to these entities unless they adhere to a 28-day window.”
