Starting today, people will be able to verify their Facebook account. It was designed to be more like Twitter in regards of allow people to follow people who say they are who they say they are, but there is already some major drawbacks to this verification process.

Much like the initial exclusivity that Facebook had when it first began, you cannot ask to be verified. If you have a lot of followers, Facebook will then offer you an option to be verified. According to All Things D, “Stefani Germanotta, aka Lady Gaga, could use Verified Accounts to verify that she is the famous Stefani Germanotta, to display her name as “Stefani Germanotta (Lady Gaga)”, or display it as simply “Lady Gaga” with Stefani Germanotta appearing the About page of her profile.”
